Role: Operations Associate

This is a unique role with the opportunity to gain unparalleled exposure and access to the Venture Capital and Startup ecosystem, not found elsewhere. Venture5 Media reaches 50,000+ VCs, Founders, LPs and others in the ecosystem monthly. After working with us for a while, folks in roles like this have gotten opportunities to get hands-on experience on:

• Getting tangible private market deal experience (e.g. writing deal memos, recommending sourcing opportunities, etc)
• Organizing and attending intimate, small-group CEO/Founder Dinners (and building relationships by being the lead point of contact)
• Interviewing CEO/Founders backed by the likes of GV, a16z, Sequoia, Accel and other top-tier VCs
• Organizing and attending large celebratory receptions for senior and rising star VCs

• An inside look at deal flow we receive
• Introductions to the right folks to help further your career

What You’ll Do

First 30 Days: We'll focus on getting you onboarded and familiar with our systems—and the way we use them. You'll work on small projects with limited impact (e.g., moving subscribers from Lu.Ma to ConvertKit, drafting a landing page). While these tasks might seem mundane at first, they're crucial for understanding our systems and workflows. This period will allow us to adjust to each other's styles, workflows, and communication preferences.

First 60 Days: If we mutually agree to continue after the first month, you'll dive into our product iteration process. You'll take on high-impact project management roles (including hands-on product development—this isn't a "hands-off" position) for some of our media properties like VC Careers. We'll introduce you to weekly scrums, sprints, and other product management methodologies. If you’re reading this, please write-in “purple bunnies fly on bacon boats” to the anything else we should know question in the application (in addition to anything else you want to share). We’ll use this as a litmus test for folks who actually read the JD. Of course, you'll handle other tasks as needed, based on your skillset.

90+ Days: Based on your capacity, interests, and our business needs, we'll increase your involvement across the Venture5 ecosystem. There's plenty to do: Venture5 Capital (private market investing), Venture5 Studio (bootstrapping new business lines), and naturally, Venture5 Media has no shortage of projects.

1+ Year: You’ll get opportunities to work on cool things which would typically be inaccessible to more junior professionals such as LP Relations, Organizing CEO/Founder events, VC GP events, investment memos, and much, much more.

Who We’re Looking For

• Part Time: Someone with the capacity 5-15 hours per week to dedicate to this (and will continue to do so for the next 1-2 years at minimum)
• Adaptable: As you evolve in this role, other projects may come your way. We're not looking for someone with deep domain expertise in any one area — we're looking for someone who can see a new problem, break it down into it's components, and start solving it.
• Iterative: We live by a philosophy of collaboration and iteration here at Venture5. If you would feel bad that between the time you present your first iteration and between the time there's a final output there's a 50-80% difference, this role is likely not for you. We value feedback (critical or otherwise) and new perspectives highly and view them as opportunities to improve the output — not a judgement of our effort or character.
• Scrappy: The first thought when faced with an obstacle should not be to go out and buy a new SaaS/tool (in fact, it should be one of the last thoughts). A better first through would be how can we hack together our current tech stack to deliver most of the results we need. We stay lean unless absolutely unavoidable (or economically unfeasbale).
• Technically-Inclined: You don't need to be an engineer (in fact, we're not really look for one), but you should be able to have a good handle on no-code/low-code automation tools, LLM's like ChatGPT, Google Workspace, Trello, Zapier, etc and hack together things as needed. We do not write custom code, but we often make unique Zaps that tie into Google Sheets, etc.
